Jessie Somerville

Speech Pathologist
27Years old
Jessie is a Speech Pathologist who works in private practice, primarily with children and young adults who have Autism-Spectrum Disorder. She does however also work with young children who have language delays (difficulty understanding and expressing language) and speech sound disorders (difficulty pronouncing speech). Jessie’s role involves working with individuals and their families to support communication development. This not only includes working directly with a client to build capacity, but also advocating for clients’ right to have accessible communication in all environments. This often involves working closely with family members, schools and other allied health professionals. She has also experience working in the hospital environment with adults but, found that working in the developmental scope of Speech Pathology was an area that she found more enjoyable. She is very passionate about supporting her client’s voices to be heard. Jessie graduated from Curtin University in 2020, after having completed her final clinical placement in Canada. She reflects on this placement as being one of the “best experiences” she could have been a part of, both professionally and personally. That being said, in her spare time Jessie enjoys planning holidays and adventures. However, on the flip side of this, she also enjoys relaxing on the couch with a cup of coffee and a great TV show.
